This video shows how tragic life for them was and it makes me grateful that slavery times are behind us in America. However we must still keep fighting for equal rights and to end police brutality and unfair trials
Class 1301-1001 assignment
After watching this video i can say without a doubt that i am not surprised what so ever about the varies things Africans had to endure during those time periods. what i did not know were the gruesome details of how everything transpired. On the boat ride over to the colonies threw the middle passage i had no idea that the majority of the time spent on the boat the Africans were shackled in chains, stacked on top of each other forced to defecate on one another. the cabin was in very bad sanitary conditions which killed tons of Africans from infection alone. Starvation was another way a lot of the slaves died during the passage. After they died, their bodies were thrown over board for the sharks to eat. Overall i feel this video was very informative and i look forward to learning more about my history.
This video gave me the insight of how slavery came about and what it look like. Its hurts knowing they was taking to own be treated like that. They was treated like scum. They died and got beaten from this stuff.
My name is Daniel Ayala and I am Currently enrolled in 1301 US History at Lone Star North Harris. The video “Journey Through Slavery: The Terrible Transformation” helped me gain new insight on how slavery was back then and gave me new information I did not know about until now. For example, I was unaware that slave owners would document whenever they gave the slaves “discipline” . I also did not know that slaves owners would cut off the legs of slaves that attempted to escape to set an example for the other slaves of what will happen if they attempt to leave as well. This video also taught me that racism has been here since the beginning, with the three men that tried to escape having unfair punishments, with the two white males given a lighter sentence compared to the man of color.

this video helped me understand slavery deeply with details
the Africans were ruled by white men and weren’t really treated like humans they were basically worked to death traded, forced to work, stuffed in a boat and a lot more.

After viewing this video there were a few things that stuck out to me. I was aware of most things that slaves had to endure during the middle passage and the slave trade but there were a few things that I wasn’t aware of.
I learned that the conditions on the boat were absolutely out of this world, slaves would be stored in the under carriage of the ships, in small spaces where they could barely breath, they had to sit in their own excrements and would sometimes go crazy or worse die. They had to go through horrible circumstances just to get to The Caribbean and Brazil. What I thought was even worse is that if any slaves died on the journey they would simply just toss them off the boat, I think what makes this so horrible to me is that these humans were treated like animals, they were treated like they didn’t have family or any rights.
I learned that masters of the slaves would do horrific things to a few slaves to show as an example of what would happen if they did wrong or went against something that was set in place. I learned that the owners would cut off one legs to ensure that slaves would not run away again.
This subject in particular is such a deep-rooted issue that I don’t think I can ever comprehend why it happen to such people. Absolutely heart breaking.
My name is Nicholas Morin and I am currently taking HIST 1301-1001 at Lone Star College North Harris. I was assigned to watch this video and to reflect off of it. Here are some details from the video “Journey Through Slavery: The Terrible Transformation” that stuck out to me.
1. The first detail that pointed out to me was when it was explaing that 3 men ran away from a plantation in 1640, they were all captured, 2 of them had a year added to their indentured time, but one name John Punch of African descent, was sentenced to serve his master for the rest of his natural life. This started the establishment of america to make a unique distinguish of slavery would soon turn out to be. I didn’t know that this is how slavery in america started, or at least towards just Africans and not non-Christians.
2. Africa was the source of the slaves, so Africans would destroy communities of different ethnic backgrounds, steal people and sell them into slavery for money. More than 20 million Africans were sold into slavery, but only half of them would survive the trip to the coast of Africa, which used to be a gold coast. It was sad to see that Africans would sell fellow Africans for profits, even though they were the same color they only saw them as of their ethnic backgrounds.
3. Masters would cut off a slaves leg to prevent them from running away again and to scare the other slaves not to do the same. I knew that some slave owners would use whips, but I didn’t know that they went to cutting off limbs. Along with this, I found out that Africans that were rebellious or difficult to handle were labeled Engolins.
4. In the Barbados, they found out that it was cheaper to work slaves to death and replace them than to treat them humanly. This was very powerful, just shows that life was more about business than humanity, which is very sad.
there is a lot of stuff in the video that stuck out to me, but those were the main ones. Regardless of that, it’s still hard to know that is how our country began. Very sick world it was, today the world we live in might not be as bad, but still sick.
My thoughts on video makes me think about how detailed we my 1301 History class is.From my knowledge giving to me Columbus isn’t the first to the New world not even the Spaniards are, its Vikings (not explained in the video). In this video they mostly talk about how slavery affect black people during the time, in some ways cutting out how slavery affected the indigenous people. Also, it breaks my heart knowing that our own people help the white man enslave us. Only if they had an crystal ball to see the future.
I have seen this video and another about how they were used for experiments and doctors to play with once there were brought to the land and just seen a horrible journey treated worse then cattle is just heart breaking
To see the atrocities that the Stolen African had to endure in pursuit of the all might dollar is truly sickening. One of the stories I haven’t heard before was the quash of the Up Rising, and the repercussions that followed.
To see the evolution of slavery of the Stolen Africans and what their people endured for the all mighty dollar was truly sickening. One thing I never heard before this was the quashed up rising, and the repercussions that came from it, which furthered the suffering.
I am in the class at Lone Star for History 1301. My name is Mark and my first assignment was to watch this video and do a refection on it. Honestly this was a big eye opener. First and most I didn’t know that there is an estimate of eleven million Africans were taken from their home and sent to Brazil and the Caribbeans.
Also I did not know that slave owners documented when they gave their salves discipline.
Captains were advise to not get salves from the same location, because they didn’t want to get the Africans from the same tribe. They were worried they would communicate with each other and start a revolt on the ship.
The one that really stuck with me is when they were on the ship. All the slaves were on the bottom of the ship, all squash together. They were laying there in feces. Also it was very limited space for them that they can barley get air. Some went mad and some died, once they died. The crew came down and got the body and threw them in the water.
It’s sad to know that all those people that though they were going to be free and be out of slavery but the worst came to them. Kipnapping for them to be mistreated.
The video “Journey Through Slavery: The Terrible Transformation” was overall very informative. I gained new knowledge after watching the video and I believe it enriched my understating of this topic and time in history.
